True Women for Sale

Rolling Stones forever!

Rock'N Roll is not really my cup of tea. But! After viewing this film "Shine a light", actually after viewing the "coming-soon" cuts in early May, I have made up my mind that I must view this film, I have a new understanding of Rock'N Roll and the Rolling Stones!
It is utmost impressive to see these four gentlemen, fantastic Mick, cool handsome guitarist Ronnie, fancily pretty guitarist Keith, and humble drummer Charlie Watts, jumping and singing on the stage! The energy and the charisma of them is really GREAT! All except the wrinkles on their faces, their appearance, confidence and shape are forever young!
With the master cut by Martin Scorsese, this is a very very interesting film! :P

The Savages

Unexpectedly warm and lovely film! Reflect what is faced by most daughters and sons when they have to take care of old parents, especially reaching the time they go back to the stage somewhat like a little child. It's a little bitter but humour about life throughout the film. The director handled the life and death in such a way that touch the bottom of my heart, no tears but lots of good memory. I simply love it.

Diving bell and butterfly

Heard of this book for years, and knowing the prizes won by it, I dare not enter the cinema for it until some film-addicts invited me to go. Why no gut going for it? Just the same for the reason for recommending it now, the reflection of one's life towards love and life.
In fact, the tone of the story was not that sad and heavy, instead it was full of humour. The use of first-person view and narration was an interesting perspective to see one's life on his own. When Jean-Do laughed at himself for all the "troubles" suffered the "lock-in" syndrome, his life began in another way. What the film inspires me most is, we always can only treasure what is left after we lose. Death is not terrible, unable to love is even worst.

Kite Runner

Unexpectedly, I really found this movie lovely and really touching. Much effort of the director was put in the first half the film, just like its original story, the friendship between two boys, a young master and a servant, which turned out to be of closer relationship after the death of one of them, was full of the simplicity of childhood. The ups and downs of lives of these two boys revealed the stratification of social status, background and tribes. Before I can have clearer understanding of the so and so of the social and political issues mentioned in the movie, I was deeply attracted to the sound, the scenic views in the movie. And ultimately, the courage and love shone from people worth all tears shed in the cinema.

Lust, Caution

Due to Ang Lee, Tony Leung and Joan Chen, I had big desire in viewing this film. And thanks to my friend, we four women viewed this talk-of-the-town at night of Mid-Autumn festival.
Perhaps I was too occupied in mind of the Tony Leung in Wong Kar Wai's films, like "In the mood of love (花樣年華)" or "Days of being wild (阿飛正傳)", expecting a charming and cool-minded guy in this film. However, Tony was far too old than any of his previous film! His way of sitting in the room when he firstly met Tong Wei privately in this film keeps reminding me of the ad of a Macau casino/hotel.
Tong Wei, well, a very special actress of the contemporary face of the WWII-era of the film, acted very well in this film. She played well of showing the inner struggle of the young woman engaged in the complicated relationship with Tony Leung. And of course, the sex scenes, is nothing about porn, Ang Lee showed the real tension of lust and caution undercurrent. Viewers under the age of 18, got to wait for a while.
However, the casting of this film makes me rather confused. Tony Leung's wife, Joan Chen, is too old for Tony. In the first 10 minutes shots at the mahjong table, I can only imagine Joan Chen is the elder sister of Tony. Joan Chen actually played her role beautifully, just too good for any further comment. The only problem is still the age gap of her with Tony.
Another surprise in this film is the detailed research of the old scenes of Hong Kong in WWII. I like the re-creation of the old Victoria Harbour viewing from the Hong Kong University, the Central, and Ang Lee really shot at the Feng Ping Shan Museum of the Hong Kong University!
Leehom, well, a very good second character, handsome and tall. But Chin Ka Lok, well, acted too much in his little role. This may be another weakness of this film.
Anyway, I recommend this film, despite it is quite a bit long (159 min.), and not only for the sake of the good acting of all roles, but also the music! The beautiful but sad music is created by Alexandre Desplat!
